You Don’t Need More Discipline, You Need This

September brings a certain kind of energy.

No, I’m not talking about the “I’m so sad summer is ending” memes featuring Sandra Bullock looking witchy. (Although… maybe I am.)

I’m talking about that back-to-business energy.

On September 1st, maybe you sat down at your computer and got serious about fall.

You mapped out your schedule.
Committed to exercising consistently.
Decided you’d cook more.
Started meditating in the morning.
Finally signed up for that art class.

You had the plan. You had the routine. You were ready to be disciplined.

The logical, planner, driven energy of Virgo season was here. ✨

But then a week goes by.

Your energy dips. (Check the calendar, babes—it could be your cycle 🩸.)
Your friend is in crisis.
A project at work needs more of your attention.
The dog gets sick.
Life happens.

So you skip the HIIT class.

And because you skipped HIIT, you feel bad about yourself, so you might as well DoorDash dinner.

The week has officially gone “off the rails,” so you say:

“Fuck it. I’ll start again Monday.”

Sound familiar?

You’re either doing ALL of it, or you’re doing NONE of it.

And that perfect plan you made? Crumbles the second real life enters the chat.

The Sandra Bullock meme in question.

Here’s what nearly a decade of working in wellness—and hours of coaching clients to create lasting habits—has taught me:

The all-or-nothing mindset doesn’t create consistency.

It creates a cycle of expectation → disappointment → self-criticism → giving up → starting over.

I had a client who lived in this cycle.

Every Monday, they’d create an ambitious plan: go to the gym several times a week, cook perfectly healthy meals, go to therapy, make time for friends, and keep up with a demanding full-time job.

They were working incredibly hard.

But instead of getting the results they wanted—building strength and feeling better in their body—they ended up injured and still experiencing digestive issues.

And when life inevitably disrupted their rigid routine, they felt like they had failed.

Over time, we worked together to soften the all-or-nothing pattern and build something smaller, more flexible, and much more sustainable.

Because the goal isn’t to create a routine you can follow perfectly.

It’s to create a rhythm you can actually live with.

Think: pants that fit your actual body.

I have a friend who only gets their clothes tailored when they’re on their period.

That way, they know their clothes will feel comfortable no matter where they are in their cycle.

I love this as a metaphor for sustainable wellness.

Your habits should be able to meet you where you are—in your actual body, in your actual life, on your high-energy days and your low-energy ones.

Think of these swaps as your wellness wardrobe:

  1. BIG 🔁 SMALL
    Small hinges swing big doors.
Building a new habit? Start with five minutes. You can always do more.
(P.S. Incremental shifts like this are actually how I broke my coffee habit.)
  2. ONE WAY 🔁 MANY WAYS
Give yourself options for how you move, nourish yourself, and decompress.
If the gym isn’t happening today, maybe it’s a walk. A yoga class. Ten minutes of stretching. Dancing in your kitchen.
    More options = more resilience.
  3. PERFECTION 🔁 PROGRESS
    Let yourself start messy.
It doesn’t have to be perfect the first time—or the tenth.
  4. HYPER-LOGICAL 🔁 INTUITIVE
You can make a plan and listen to your body.
Create a menu of options, then let your energy, needs, and intuition help you choose.
  5. PAST 🔁 PRESENT
What worked for you at 18 might not work for you at 28, 38, or 48.
Stay curious about what your body and life need now.

If this all sounds cute in theory—but you’re still stuck in the cycle of starting, stopping, and beating yourself up—I’d love to help.

A discovery call is a chance to step back, get clear on what’s actually getting in your way, and start building a wellness rhythm that works for your real life.

You were never meant to push through, override, or live disconnected from your body.

Your Rhythm Within is about working with your natural rhythms—not against them. Honoring energy instead of forcing it. Choosing sustainable over extreme, and clarity over confusion.

My approach to wellness is rooted in cycle awareness, nervous system support, intentional movement, and nourishment that actually meets you where you are.
