Choosing Curiosity

“Choose curiosity”

I can’t count the number of times I’ve said this in a coaching or yoga session.

I’d like to share a story with you about choosing curiosity and where it led me…

My cousin recently got married and we were staying at a cute hotel near Newport, RI. On the morning we were checking out, I decided to take my tea and sit outside in the sun.

The hotel, as you might imagine, was along a busy road without much around, but I remembered seeing an old stone wall behind it. I decided to go check it out – lean into my curiosity.

When I went to explore the stone wall, I saw a trail marker and a sign for an entire park right behind the hotel! There was even a hike to a beautiful tower! I had the best morning with my tea, the trees, the bees, and all the cute dogs I met on my walk.

I almost dismissed the environment the hotel was situated in as having nothing to offer me, and I’m so glad I didn’t.

When we choose curiosity over judgment, we expand our perspective, create opportunity for exploration, and make space for growth.

Choosing curiosity really can lead you to beautiful places

Loving inquiry: Where do you notice judgment towards self, others or your environment, coming up?

Challenge! When you notice yourself judging, get curious! Observe your thoughts with interest and then ask a question instead. Eg. “Isn’t it interesting that I just told myself I was lazy and doing a bad job. Is that really true?”
