Why breakfast matters
Hit the snooze button.
Once. Twice. Three times.
Maybe you stayed up scrolling. Maybe you couldn’t stop watching your favorite comfort show (Gilmore Girls anyone?). Maybe anxious thoughts kept you awake long after you turned the lights out and put your tech away.
Whatever the reason, you’re running late.
Breakfast gets skipped.
Coffee becomes breakfast.
It doesn’t seem like a big deal…
…until noon rolls around.
You’re struggling to focus. Your coworkers suddenly feel extra irritating. You’d eat just about anything because you’re starving. Lunch gets inhaled in 10 minutes, you’re bloated afterward and by 3pm you’re reaching for another coffee.
Sound familiar?
It might feel normal, but it doesn’t have to be.
Here’s what’s happening ⬇️
Skipping breakfast causes your blood sugar to drop.
To compensate, your body releases cortisol (you may know her as your stress hormone). Elevated cortisol can influence your sex hormones—including estrogen and progesterone—which is one reason breakfast matters so much for those of us who experience a menstrual cycle.
In other words: your first meal sets the tone for the rest of your day.
Why breakfast matters
✨ More stable energy. Fewer crash outs. Less relying on caffeine.
✨ Better mood and focus. No more feeling “hangry” by lunchtime and you’ll save yourself from having to apologize for the things you said when you were a hungry gremlin.
✨ Less PMS. Research suggests that steadier blood sugar may help reduce PMS symptoms. If eating breakfast is difficult for you, try to at least prioritize it during your luteal phase (the two weeks before your period starts).
✨ Happier digestion. Long stretches without eating often lead to blood sugar swings, rushed meals, and reaching for foods that leave your gut feeling worse.
“But I’m not hungry”
This is one of the most common things I hear.
Often, it’s because dinner is too large or too late. Try shifting more of your food to earlier in the day. Your metabolism is naturally more active in the morning and afternoon, so this is when your body is primed to use that energy.
Think about meal sizes in terms of medieval hierarchy: breakfast is queen, lunch is king and dinner is pauper.
It’s a small change that can make a surprisingly big difference.
Curious about making this shift, but not sure how to start? Let’s chat.
“But I don’t have time”
I get it.
Some mornings you’re lucky if you remember your keys.
My favorite grab-and-go breakfast right now is a Mush Protein Bar paired with:
-
an apple, pear, or berries
-
a handful of pumpkin seeds or nuts
-
or a boiled egg for extra protein
This combination will get you to the amount of protein and fiber you need for a hormone healthy breakfast!
Pack it the night before, toss it in your bag, and breakfast is handled.
When you have a little more time…
My absolute favorite way to get all I need in the morning is a mix and match breakfast plate because I can switch it up, I can meal prep it and it’s pretty.
Build your breakfast around 3 things:
🥚 Protein: eggs, canned fish in oil (sardines, tuna, salmon), greek yogurt, plant-based protein powder, cottage cheese, tofu, tahini, nut butter, hummus.
🌾 Fiber: whole grains like German rye bread, quinoa, farrow, even sprouted whole-grain pretzels to go with your smoothie or yogurt .
🌻 Healthy fats & seeds: sesame, pumpkin, chia, flax, sunflower, fennel – sprinkle them on everything!
Add fruit or vegetables and you’ve got a meal that will keep you energized for hours.

Let’s be real though…
Knowing what to eat isn’t usually the hard part.
Actually building habits that fit your real life is.
That’s where support from a health guide comes in.
Together, we’ll create simple routines that work with your schedule, your hormones, and your lifestyle—so you can stop relying on coffee to get through the day and start feeling consistently energized.
Ready for mornings that leave you feeling clear-headed instead of running on fumes?
I’d love to help.
Let’s create a morning routine your hormones will thank you for.
